Lisbon: 9 great places for foodies

When Hotelplan asked me to do a trip to Lisbon and capture impressions of the Portuguese capital Lisbon, I was immediately in for the offer. Lisbon has been on my bucket list for long. It is not only known for its rich history, but also for the many culinary treats, on which I want to focus in this blog post. Together with my good friend Richie (richiehug.comwe tried to try various places in the city next to the river Tejo. Below you will find a list with restaurants and cafes which Richie and I personally liked and would definitely recommend.

*the list does not have a specific order*

Pop Cereal Café

Of all the restaurants and cafés we tried, the Pop Cereal Café was my personal favorite! First of all I totally loved the whole concept and the interior decoration. Everything is around cereals and pop art. In addition the staff was cordial and humorous. A good WiFi signal is available too, in case you need that. But let's talk about the most important thing. Their menu. You have the possibility to get .... CEREALS! A lot of cereals. They offer more than 100 types of cereals. You can get those in different variations. For example the classic way: plain cereals with milk. Or you let them make special creations. How about a cup of ice cream with cereals?

If you do not feel like eating cereals go for one of their awesome milk shakes. Okay, it might be a calorie bomb, but one you will not regret!

Near 'Praça Luís de Camões'

Rua do Norte 64, 1200-365 Lisboa, Portugal

Bread 4 You Bistrô

The Bread 4 You Bistrô offers its traditional Portuguese cuisine at a very reasonable price. In terms of best value for money it was probably the best place. The food was great, as was the staff who did their job very well by being attentive and kind. For my Bife à portuguesa (= Steak Portuguese style) I paid €12.50 (incl. side dish).

Near metro station 'Baixa-Chiado'

honorato burger lisbon

We arrived in Lisbon almost starving. So instead of searching endlessly for a good restaurant online, we went into the first restaurant that seemed nice from the outside. We ended up in the restaurant Honorato. It turned out to be a very good choice. Honorato is a restaurant focusing on burgers and it is said to be one of the best places for burgers in Lisbon. For the record: The burger was great indeed!

Near metro station 'Avenida'

Rua de Santa Marta 48F, 1150-299 Lisboa, Portugal

hottie lisbon chilli con carne quesadillas

Hottie offers you dishes like hot dogs, quesadillas, chilli con carne, chicken wings and so on. Not at all Portuguese cuisine, I know. But it was the perfect hangover breakfast after a long party night. I highly recommend you the chilli con carne (for €3.90) if you pass by here. It was very tasty!

Near metro station 'Avenida'

Rua de Santa Marta 27 H, 1150-291 Lisboa, Portugal

Copenhagen Coffee Lab

On the search of a place with useable WiFi to get some work done, we stumbled upon Copenhagen Coffe Lab. The WiFi was decent, indeed. Not only that, as the name suggests, they also serve amazing coffee. Additionally, we tried the Thai Vegan Quinoa Salad – very delicious!

Definitely a good choice if you need to write a blog post about the food in Lisbon or whatever. :-)

Near ‘National Museum of Natural History and Science’

Rua Nova da Piedade 10, 1200-298 Lisboa, Portugal

manteigeira lisbon pasteis de nata

Manteigaria is one of the best places in Lisbon to get pastéis de nata, a Portuguese egg tart pastry. This is something you definitely have to try. You can enjoy your pastry with a good coffee inside the Manteigaria and observe how this delicacy is being made. However, note that there are no seats. Yet, you can also order them to go and sit on a bench in the square just in front of Manteigaria.

Next to 'Praça Luís de Camões'

Rua do Loreto 2, 1200-108 Lisboa, Portugal

Gelados Santini

There are many places to get good ice-cream in Lisbon. One that surely stood out was the one we tried at Santini. The flavors are incredibly intense, it felt like a was actually tasting a fresh strawberry and mango. A must for every ice cream-lover.

Gelato Davvero

Since we are speaking of ice cream, I have to mention Gelato Davvero. TripAdvisor ranks it as the best place for ice cream in Lisbon. Their position is certainly well-deserved, which for you means: you should get at least a bowl of this tasty ice cream!

Next to 'Praça de São Paulo'

Praça São Paulo 1, 1200-425 Lisboa, Portugal

Time Out Market Lisboa

time out market lisboa lisbon eat food

Sometimes it is hard to make a decision what to eat. So in case you and your travel partner(s) cannot decide where to go, just head to the Time Out Market Lisboa. This food market offers you the possibility to try the food of some of the best restaurants in Lisbon in one place. There are for example food stands of restaurants I mentioned above, such as Honorato, Manteigaria and Santini. The only downside is, that you do not have the chill vibes you would have in a restaurant.

Between 'Praça de São Paulo' and metro station 'Cais do Sodré'

Av. 24 de Julho 49, 1200-109 Lisboa, Portugal

So these were my favorite spots for foodies in Lisbon. Of course, there are many many other great places to try.

If you have been to Lisbon before, which one(s) would you recommend?
